Brady's GT Zaskar LE

GT Zaskar LE

This week we undertook the task of updating Brady's GT Zaskar LE and converting it to a single speed. In its standard form the bike featured some very old LX and XT componentry, cantilever brakes and Manitou MACH 5 SX forks which had all of about 30mm of travel left.

So first things first, we stripped it bare and cleaned until it was all shiny again. The first step in the re-assemble was to build a rear wheel using a White Ind eccentric Eno hub and a Mavic rim, as this will take care of all the chain tensioning duties. We then fitted some new Shimano Deore Hollowtech II cranks with a Saint chainring & guard with a SRAM single speed chain. Rockshox SID Race forks replaced the old Manitous. These can have either 80mm or 100mm of travel. Finally some new Shimano V style brakes mean the bike will actually come to a stop without the rider visibly ageing.

Its maiden voyage will be our Anzac day ride and will be perfectly suited to the Yarra Trails.
