Kona 12hr Enduro
There's a certain type of person that is attracted to an Enduro event, compared to a State race. And of those certain type of people, there are 3 sub-sections. Firstly, you have to be a bit loopy. Check! Now if you are slightly nutty you will most likely fit into the next 3 sub-sections. First, the guys who turn up to win. All they can see is the top of the podium and nothing else (freaks). Second, the people who are there for the atmosphere. The guys who don't really care where they come, as long as they are having a good time, they have won. Finally, the people who are riding in their first race. That's right! They've chosen a 12hr Endurance race to try their hand at mountain biking.
Thankfully I was in the second sub-section. I was in a team of 6 crazies. Angoose, Pome Pete, Heidi, Vinca, Libby and yours truly. With a fine selection of shirts, ties and stubby shorts, our team potted along at a steady pace to finish the race in the top 5 (i think). I'd have to say the highlight of the weekend was sitting with Angoose, Sarah & Bianca (Crumpler babes) and Heidi, at about 10pm Sat night, on the exit to one of the 4 creek crossings, yelling, at the top of our voices, 'encouragement' at every rider that came by. Then Pete stopping on the entrance to the creek crossing and proceeded to do a funky little dance with some glow sticks!!! By the end of the night there was a massive crowed shouting everything from "Don't worry, Jesus will catch you" to "Come on Sparky, they're just behind you!!"
Huge thanks to Snozza and the Full Gas Promotions gurus for putting on a fab event!!
Bring on the Beechworth 12hr!!!
Then, maybe, the Kona 24hr................
Cheers
