Matt's Story
I'm a happily married father of two great teenage kids and one rather pampered pooch. Reaching mid life crisis stage, I am clinging to my youth through a healthy addiction to road cycling.
I have been riding with the guys from Gran Prix for years, and have some real fond memories of Saturday morning rides and its many and varied riders. In fact it was Gran Prix who, a few years ago, helped shape my mid life crisis fueled by unguided & ignorant enthusiasm for cycling into one of the most pleasurable and rewarding things I have ever done.
Back then I had just bought my first road bike from a competitor of GP's and was experiencing really poor after-sales service. Frustrated, I popped into my LBS (local bike shop) which was Gran Prix, to see if I could have them attend to the problem. Whilst Raenier worked on the bike, I had my first of many chats with Stephen. Result -bike fixed, new friends made, and comfort in that I had found a place that provided great advice and exceptional service. They also told me about the Saturday shop rides, and I have only missed a few since then.
I was really sad at Stephen's sudden passing last year, who had become somewhat of a cycling mentor for me. I was therefore humbled when asked to assist with the Saturday morning rides. I hope to continue this for some time, and proudly wear the Gran Prix kit.
