Hutchinson Python Airlight Tyres Gran Prix Stripes

After lengthy discussions between myself, Doug and our Hutchinson rep, we decided to fit Hutchinson Python tyres to Deanna's TREK for her to use in her events. During all these discussions, I was given quite a hard time for my so called 'poor choice' in "X" branded XC tyres, and promptly told I should be riding a Hutchy Python instead. About two weeks ago we tested a Gary Fisher MTB and almost all riders that day weren't riding their own bikes. My bike for the day was Doug's TREK Y11 Carbon dually single speed, fitted with Hutchinson Python tyres. After weeks upon weeks of standing up for my choice in tyres I have now had to concede defeat and eat my words. In the dry and dusty conditions I have never ridden a better tyre. They had more grip than my current tyre but, by golly, they were so much faster.

For ANZAC day we organised another ride at Lysterfield and my bike was sporting a lovely new set of Pythons. The difference was immediately noticeable again, even just in the rolling speed I achieved in the first decent. The corner speed was well up on my previous tyres, and if you're going to lose the front end it's not instantaneous, you get fair warning and enough time to correct or wash off some speed. I could tell the grip was fairly good from the amount of dirt landing on my helmet from the front tyre. This was my only whinge and when i piped up and said "Well my old tyres didn't do that!" I was quickly told that it's quite normal and that they will stop doing it once they've worn in a little.

In the wet I would certainly want something with a more aggressive tread pattern, but we haven't seen a great deal of rain and what little we have had hasn't effected our bone dry trails, so all in all a very impressive tyre.
